Tadoba Tiger Safari
Tadoba National Park, also called the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, is Maharashtra’s oldest and largest national park, covering 1,727 square kilometers in Chandrapur district, about 150 km from Nagpur. Established through the merging of Tadoba National Park (1955) and Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary (1986), it became a united reserve in 1995. Known for its thriving Bengal tiger population, Tadoba is one of India’s 47 Project Tiger reserves, playing a vital role in tiger conservation. According to the 2010 tiger census, around 43 tigers inhabit the park, making it one of the best spots to see these majestic creatures.
The park’s diverse landscape includes Southern tropical dry deciduous forests dominated by teak trees, dense valleys, rolling meadows, and hillocks. Water sources like Tadoba Lake, Kolsa Lake, and the Andhari River sustain the park’s ecosystem, supporting a variety of animals and plants. Besides tigers, the sanctuary is home to Indian leopards, Sloth Bears, Gaurs, Wild Dogs, and various deer species, along with native bird species like the Grey-headed Fish Eagle and Crested Serpent Eagle.
Tadoba opens to visitors from October to June, offering open-top gypsy safaris for a thrilling jungle experience. Accommodations are conveniently located near Kolara and Mohurli Gates, providing easy access to safari entry points. Conservation efforts and sustainable tourism practices have helped preserve Tadoba’s rich biodiversity, making it a must-visit for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts seeking a genuine wilderness experience.
